A pair of goals three minutes apart in the final 10 minutes of the game lifted No. 7 Kutztown to an upset over No. 1 West Chester, 2-0, Wednesday evening at Andre Reed Stadium.

West Chester (12-2, 6-1 PSAC) saw its 12-game winning streak come to an end and fell out of a tie for first place and into second as a result of the loss to Kutztown (11-4, 4-3).

West Chester limited Kutztown to just six shots in the game, five of them on goal, but two found the back of the cage. Meanwhile, the Golden Rams could not beat the Bears’ goalkeeper Kerri Hanshaw with their 13 shots at the cage.

Katie Thompson (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) scored twice, and Lindsay Engle (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) added another, as top-ranked West Chester defeated host Mansfield, 3-0, Saturday evening.

West Chester (13-2, 7-1 PSAC) maintained pace with an idle East Stroudsburg to set up a showdown at Vonnie Gros Field on Halloween for first place in the regular-season standings. Mansfield fell to 8-7 overall and 4-3 in the conference and remain in sixth place – the final playoff spot in the standings. With the win, the Golden Rams clinched a postseason bid, which was really a foregone conclusion.

How It Happened:
Katie Thompson scored a pair of goals to up her team lead to 15 on the season in the 28th minute. Lindsay Engle added her first goal of the season in the first minute of the second half to give West Chester a 2-0 lead. Katie Thompson added her second goal in the 50th minute.

Inside the Box Score:
WCU goalkeeper Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) made eight saves in her sixth shutout of the year. West Chester held a 24-16 advantage in shots.
