Friday Sept. 7 saw both fashion and fights in New York City. Celebrities and designers gathered to kick off the start of New York Fashion week, which occurs semi annually in February and September. According to TimeOut Magazine, New York Fashion week features two shows: a public show and a private show meant exclusively for fashion industry elites. The Harper’s Bazaar Icons party at New York Fashion week featured a slew of celebrities, such as Cynthia Ervio, Whoopi Goldberg, Selena Gomez, Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. Hip hop icons Nicki Minaj and Cardi B stole the spotlight in an unfortunate manner when Cardi lunged at Minaj, causing bodyguards to intervene.

Cardi advanced on Minaj after the rapper allegedly criticized her parenting skills. Cardi. gave birth to her first child Kulture Kiari Cephus in July 2018. Once Cardi realized security guards blocked her target, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper threw one of her red stiletto shoes at Minaj. The shoe missed Minaj, but Cardi’s intentions rang clear. Videos of the spat shows Cardi sporting a lump on her forehead and a rip in her dress. Consequently, security quickly escorted Cardi out of the party. According to TMZ, the welt Cardi received on her forehead happened by accident when a security guard unintentionally elbowed her. “The I Like It Like That” rapper left the party barefoot, sporting her red Dolce & Gabanna gown.

When Beats 1 “Queen Radio” show aired on Monday via Apple Music, Nicki Minaj cited the public incident as, “mortifying and humiliating.” Minaj also suggested Cardi receive psychological help, which added fuel to the fire. Minaj denied having said negative comments concerning Cardi’s role as a mother, but her declaration of innocence did not stop Cardi from posting an impassioned, profane rant on Instagram after the incident. “I addressed you once in person, I addressed you twice in person, and every time you copped the plea!” The comment below Cardi’s post read: “PERIOD” and the post itself received over three million likes and a little over three hundred thousand comments.

Wendy Williams spoke of the altercation on The Wendy Williams Show and invited reporter Liliana Vasquez to comment on the situation since she witnessed the event firsthand. Vasquez affirmed Cardi instigated the aggressive behavior, as evidenced when Cardi removed her earrings prior to lunging for Minaj. Williams stated, “Who are you women? I’m embarrassed for you and as far as I’m concerned, there is no winner.”
