The West Chester Rams started off their week by traveling up to New York to face St. Thomas Aquinas College. West Chester was defeated in a tough battle on Tuesday evening.

The Spartans came out swinging and were able to put up six runs in the first three innings. Thanks to an RBI single from fourth-year Shane Dressler, the Rams were able to get on the board. The top of the sixth inning was the highlight for the Rams. Third-year Jared Melone started it off with an RBI double to score senior Nick Ward.

Another RBI single from Dressler brought the score to 8-3. He would then make it home thanks to a single from junior Drew Jarmuz. After senior Zach Sheranko scored off a sacrifice fly, Ford came up and hit a two-run homer to bring him and Jarmuz home.

Unfortunately that would be all the offensive action from the Rams until the 9th. Sherando had an RBI single to score Ward. Only one run was produced in their last at bats in the ninth, which was not enough to give them the win.

The Rams returned home to face Bloomsburg University on Saturday in hope to reverse their two game losing streak.

Saturday’s doubleheader began with a 1 p.m. start. The Rams struck first in the bottom of the third. The Rams were on the board after an RBI single from Ward to score second-year Keith Flaherty. Soon after, Dressler hit an RBI double to score Ward and third-year Jon Hansen brining the Rams up 3-0. The rams ended the inning with three runs off four hits.

The bottom of the fifth was much of the same story.

Thanks to a few errors following Ward’s single, Hansen and Coyle both scored adding to the advantage. Melone followed Ward’s RBI single with one of his own. Melone advanced to home after a single from Sheranko and a fielding error.

Next up, Jarmuz grounded out to the shortstop but Dressler was able to score. The last run for the Rams was scored at the end of the inning with a sac fly from Webb to score Shernako. The Bloomsburg Huskies were only to get one run in at the top of the seventh.

The final score of 9-1 gave the Rams the win making them 10-1 at home.

The second of the double-header was much of the same story. The Rams came out swinging in their second match of the series. In their first at bat the rams were able to score one run. After being walked, Melone eventually advanced to home off an RBI single from Sheranko. The bottom of the fifth was an offensive inning for the Rams. The scoring started with a two-run homer from Dressler.

Jarmuz also batted Sheranko in to bring the score up 7-3. The Rams had three runs off three hits in the bottom of the fifth. Hansen also had a solo homerun in the sixth inning.

Soon after Hansen’s homer, Sheranko had an RBI single and Jarmuz followed with a RBI double. The bottom of the sixth was also a three-run, three-hit inning. Bloomsburg was able to hit a few runs in with three runs off of eight hits in the game.

The Rams will travel to Bloomsburg to play two games previously rescheduled.

West Chester Rams have five games left of the regular season before the PSAC tournament begins on May 9. With only three home games left, the Rams remain 11-1 at home and are on a two game win streak.

West Chester plays Bloomsburg another two times in enemy territory this Sunday, and then host Wilmington University May 2. Then, the team takes on Mansfield University on May 4 for a doubleheader.
