Every so often I get hit with a food experience that leaves a mark not only on my palate but on my memory as well. Whether it’s a butter-soaked soft pretzel from the Amish farmer’s market or a freshly squeezed cup of orangeade from the local smoothie spot, the feelings that a great meal can bring transcend all categories of cuisine.

One local restaurant is serving up food that undoubtedly always brings me a delicious experience, and that restaurant is none other than Bon Bon Sushi.

I still remember the first time I ate Bon Bon so clearly. It was my 20th birthday and I was treating myself to what I had been hearing about for months: the infamous sushi burrito. I stared at the menu and waited for my then-boyfriend to choose first. Finally, I settled on the Hawaiian option, with tempura-fried chicken and pieces of pineapple.

The first bite of that cross-cultural delicacy was mind-blowing. Obviously it combined two of my (many) favorite foods, but it was perhaps the freshness and quality of the ingredients that really stood out to me. The lettuce was crisp, the chicken was still steaming from the fryer and the sweet chili garlic sauce left a lingering burn on the back of my tongue.

Needless to say, I have been hooked ever since.

Bon Bon is a short walking distance from WCU, tucked away at 22 N. Darlington St. If you’re not paying attention, you might end up walking right past it. But if the façade doesn’t catch your eye, the smells coming from the restaurant will surely bring you in. The freshness of the ingredients Bon Bon uses is what makes their sushi the best in West Chester. The fish tastes like it was flown in straight from the sea, the rice is always cooked to perfection and the cream cheese in the Philadelphia roll never fails to make me appreciate the smaller things in life.

Along with serving high quality products, Bon Bon sells them for a very reasonable price. One sushi roll is just $5, two rolls are $8 and, if you can stomach them, three rolls are only $12. It’s truly the best deal for your money, and most sushi lovers are well aware of the debts that their obsession can lead to.

If you’re looking for the best thing one their menu, look no further than the amazing chicken or shrimp tempura rolls. The special “Bon Bon Sauce” that sits atop these magnificent mounds of food is something that will leave you speechless.

If you’re looking to have your next food experience in West Chester, give Bon Bon Sushi a try. You won’t leave disappointed—or hungry.
