Come out and support West Chester’s very own University Dance Company in their annual fall dance concert on Nov. 10, 11 and 12, presented by the Theater and Dance Department at West Chester University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts at Madeleine Wing Alder Theater. The show is in the Swope Music Building, located on 817 S. High St.

This year’s fall concert is titled “Veer: to alter a Direction or Course” and encourages thinking about a change in direction or course from a broad perspective; physically, spatially, socially, and politically. Most of the dancers in the concert are studying as dance minors in hopes to launch a professional career upon graduating. It is sure to be a crowd pleaser, so you will not want to miss it.

The University Dance Company has been working hard all semester long–enduring an audition process, countless rehearsals and late nights in the studio–to ensure “Veer” goes off without a hitch. So, come out and support this dedicated cast.

The fall performances contain a mix of faculty and guest artist choreographers, as well as selected student choreographers. WCU dance faculty Gretchen Studlien-Webb and Maria Urrutia will showcase work, in addition to professional guest artists Bethany Formica, Michael Nickerson-Rossi and Miles Yeung,  from the Philadelphia metro area. The student choreographers include Akasha Alvarez, Nia Andrews, Tatiana Greer, Sadie Markley, and Mary Weese. You do not want to miss the talented work of these choreographers and the dancers who bring their visions to life on stage.

“Veer” officially debuts to the public on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. However, there is a special student preview night on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. especially for students to come out and enjoy the show. Tickets are only $5 for West Chester students on Thursday, Nov. 10. Just make sure to bring your student ID along.

If you cannot make the student preview showing, no worries. “Veer” will have its opening night on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. It will also be presented twice on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 2 and 7:30 p.m. There will be a food drive Saturday night benefiting the West Chester Food Cupboard. Bring two non-perishable food items along and get a general admission ticket for $8, or a student ticket for $6. This special offer is only available when purchasing tickets at the door.

Tickets for the Friday and Saturday performances will cost $12 for students and $15 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased prior to the show either online at http://wcupatix.com/theatre-and-dance/ or at the box office located on the ground floor of the E.O. Bull Center. Tickets will also be available for purchase before the performances at the box office outside of Madeleine Wing Alder Theater.

This is a great pre-professional opportunity for the student choreographers and the performers in the concert. So come and indulge yourself in the art of dance. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Sadie Markley is a fourth-year student majoring in English writings track with a minor in dance. She can be reached at SM809020@wcupa.edu.
