WCU’s 2016 Involvement fair took place on Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Over 200 clubs were in attendance, including various businesses and vendors. With many students in attendance, clubs and organizations had their first opportunity to recruit new members and make their presence known on campus.
With smiling faces and handshakes, many clubs played music and even handed out club paraphernalia. WCU’s College Democrats were seen handing out not only engraved pens, but also candy and bottle openers.
“I love the involvement fair because it allows members to really in- teract with new WCU students and potentially gain new members,” said sophomore Elizabeth Gibson.
Gibson is the secretary of the College Democrats and the Public Safety and Parking Senator for the Student Government Association.
“It’s exciting to see all of the different organizations on campus getting together to encourage student involvement. The involvement fair is a great place to see which clubs are more approachable and inclusive, and which clubs really do want you to join.”
Although the involvement fair aims to get new students involved, many feel intimidated attending an event as widespread as the involvement fair.
“At first it was really overwhelming because of how many people were walking around,” said first-year student Juah Toe. “I just really didn’t know where to start. I thought it was really fun to see everything West Chester had to offer. I found all of the clubs and organizations I was looking for in less than 20 minutes of being there. It was definitely something fun to do in between classes.”
A section of the academic quad in front of Main Hall, where the Panhellenic council had their own table set up, was designated for sororities and fraternities. Many students were eager to participate in recruitment and Greek life in general.
“The involvement fair is a great way to find your place at WCU and going through recruitment was a great experience for me,” said sophomore Sarah Jurasinski, a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha. “I’m excited to be a part of it again this year.”
Members of the inter-fraternal council as well as members of the executive boards of fraternities and sororities were all in attendance at the fair, working to grab the attention of students looking to become a part of Greek life.
“It’s great being back at school and the involvement fair just really gets everyone even more excited about what’s to come in the upcoming semester,” said sophomore Sarah Velehoski, a member of the executive board for the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity.
If any students were deterred by crowds and hot weather, their best bet can be connecting with clubs through OrgSync. Students can do this by go-ing to orgsync.com/login/west-chester-university-of-pennsylvania and selecting the “Register Now” option.
There are more than 250 organizations linked to West Chester University’s OrgSync software, and they update regularly with contact information, meeting times, office hours and more.

How about any other organization other than the College Dems? It is clear that the writer is involved with the club, because College Dems’ handouts (which was not necessary towards the article) was included, and a student from College Dems was quoted.
It would have been nice to hear a broad recap of all organizations involved, not just the College Democrats and the Fraternities and Sororities.
