The Lady Rams have been on a tear as of late, going on an eight-game winning streak, beating opponents such as Mansfield University, Millersville University, Chestnut Hill College, and Philadelphia University.

During this win streak, the Golden Rams have not allowed more than one run in any of its eight straight victories. Starting off with the first double header against Mansfield University, the Lady Rams completely dominated in the first game by winning with a score of 14-0. Some key players in this dominating win were shortstop Sarah Derstine, who batted in four runs and had three big hits as well.  In the second game of the doubleheader, the Golden Rams kept up their domination as they won the game by a score of 12-1. Center Erin Quense and right fielder Madison Kelly both batted in four runs each as they led the Lady Rams to an easy sweep.

Onto the next doubleheader against Millersville, WCU continued their hot streak as they won both games a total of 6-0, and the second game 1-0. Shortstop Derstine batted in three runs and third baseman Laura Altenburger had a nice game batting in two runs as well. So far after these two games, the Lady Rams were on a four-game winning streak, looking to push their success forward to the upcoming games. [pullquote align=”center”]Erin Quense and Madison Kelly both batted in four runs each as they led West Chester to an easy sweep[/pullquote]

The next team that the Golden Rams played against was Chestnut Hill, which they defeated in the doubleheader with scores of 4-0 in the first game, and 3-0 in the second game. Pitcher Ashely Flesch led West Chester in the second game, only giving  up one run in five innings, and had a great game with ten strikeouts as West Chester dominated with their defense.

Moving on to the next doubleheader which was against Philadelphia University. The first game they won with a close score of 2-1, led by some great pitching from Amanda Houck who only gave up one run, and both runs scored by Altenburger with two very important hits. Swinging to the second game of the doubleheader, the Golden Rams had a much easier victory winning with a score of 7-1.

Unfortunately, after a long week of winning games, the eight-game winning streak came to an end with the doubleheader against Shippensburg University. In the first game, the Lady Rams lost by a score of 7-1, and struggled on the offensive side with only two hits the whole game along with an error. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Golden Rams lost by a score of 6-3. They were able to produce more offense this game by getting seven hits, but unfortunately, they gave up seven runs as well and the team had a total of four strikeouts when up to bat.

The Lady Rams’ current record is 18-8 and they continue their successful season on March 29 with a doubleheader against East Stroudsburg University at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and another doubleheader March 31 against Bloomsburg University.
