On April 1, Afrisa, in collaboration with Sisters United, LASO and CALYPSO hosted the 3rd annual Women of Color event to recognize inspiring women around campus who have influenced minority students. Each organization had a chance to present awards to women from their native cultures. Some of the women that were honored were Mrs. Gizelle Jones, the Associate Director for the Office of Financial Aid; Patricia Swasey-Washington, professor of communicative disorders; Robin Bowers, Public Safety Officer; Idna Mantza Corbett, Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Student Support Services; and Ms. Aneesah Smith, Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs for LGBTQA services and special projects.

West Chester had the privilege to welcome back current graduate student,  Zuri Stone, who started this project.

“I feel as though women of color around campus are not shined a light on and this is why I created this project: to shine light on the women around campus that has impacted each one of our lives,” explained Stone as she presented in front of the minority population here on campus.

Tiffany Hundley is a third-year student majoring in English literature with a minor in French. She can be reached at TH744096@wcupa.edu.
