The Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali left a $1000 tip after going to a Fogo de Chao restaurant after the team won last Sunday, making them 7-0.
The NFL has a bad reputation for its players sometimes having trouble with the law. Michael Vick was in prison for two years because of the dog fighting ring that was hosted at his house in Virginia. Aaron Hernandez was arrested this past summer and charged with murder. These are more extreme circumstances. Players in the NFL are typically arrested for smaller charges like DUIs and possession charges, which makes it hard to believe that children look up to some of these men as role models.
Players who make bad decisions tend to make it to the news quicker. Random acts of kindness such as Tamba Hali leaving a $1000 gratuity to his server at a restaurant in Kansas City are the kinds of things that go unnoticed. These are the types of players that young children should consider role models. According to Joshua Roan, the server that night, Hali and his family come into the restaurant often and are easy to please.
“He doesn’t really have any special requests, just as long as the kids are fed first,” Roan said.
At the end of the night when the server went to check the tip, he was in store for a shocker.
“I thought it was a typo, and then I saw the signature and it was clear as day, and I was like ok, well, that is very nice,” Roan remembered. A picture of the receipt from that night was released on Twitter last Monday. The bill’s total was $1827.09 with a gratuity of $296.69 that was already added into the bill. In the line that was left for the tip, the generous Hali wrote in $1000.00 making the total $2827.09. “He was the last guest here, so once he left everybody was just going nuts,” Roan said.
Hali wasn’t all too excited to hear that word had gotten out about the tip. He said it’s his way of giving back to others the way people have given to him all his life. This shows the type of character that Hali has been able to maintain while being labeled a professional athlete that comes with the money, the fame and the bad reputation of not necessarily being character-driven men. These are the random acts of kindness that should not go unnoticed.
