Alpha Phi Omega, Omicron Upsilon Chapter, is petitioning for a Venturing Crew organization on- campus.

Venturing Crew is one of the newer additions to the Boy Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts have evolved over the years to serve as many young adults as possible. A Venturing Crew is designed for young men and women from ages 14-20 to create and attend higher activity events under the guidance of adults over the age of 21. These activities range from camp outs, hiking, kayaking, archery training, and caving, among many others. Venturing Scouts have access to all Boy Scouts of America’s resources and campsites.

The Chester County Council is proposing WCU’s Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity, to sponsor a Venturing Crew. The bridge between Alpha Phi Omega and the Boy Scouts of America is in the history of the founding of the fraternity. For the first 40 years of its history, brothers of Alpha Phi Omega were required to be Eagle Scouts in order to be initiated. To open membership to all whom desire service opportunities, the restrictions were renounced so all men and women may join. The Boy Scouts’ motto, slogan, and oath remain prevalent in the service Alpha Phi Omega provides to the youth and community.

Membership to the Venturing Crew is open to all young men and women of West Chester University. Before the spring semester ends, the Venturing Crew will be signing the start up forms and hold their first meeting to create a goals statement.
