The West Chester womenʼs swim team finished fourth in the country and the menʼs swim team placed fifth this year at the NCAA Division II championship. The meet took place at the YMCA Aquatic and Family Center in Orlando, Fla. last weekend. The competition began on Wednesday, March 9 and ended on Saturday, March 12. Tammy Leane, who was the womenʼs swimmer of the meet at the Pennsylvania State Aquatic Championship, had an impressive showing. She won both the 500- yard freestyle and the 400-yard individual medley. She placed second runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard backstroke, as well as in the 800-yard freestyle relay. She also finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay and fifth in the 400-yard medley relay. All together Leane claimed four individual All-American honors as well as three team All-American honors. The NCAA recognizes the top eight finishers in each event as All- Americans. Anyone placing between ninth and 16th also received Honorable Mention All-American (HMAA). For the men, both Leve Nagy- Pal and Reggie Shearer had outstanding performances. Nagy-Pal finished second runner-up in the 400-yard individual medley and sixth in the 1000-yard freestyle. Along with his two All-American honors, he earned two more HMAA in the 200-yard butterfly and the 1650 freestyle. Shearer placed third in the 50- yard freestyle and had a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. He also received three All-American honors in relay events as well as one Honorable Mention All-American in another relay event.

Other female swimmers who performed exceptionally well were Alex Parrilla, Leanne Rowland, and Ashley Haney. Parrilla earned two individual All-American honors by placing seventh in the 200-yard freestyle as well as fifth in the 500-yard freestyle. She also won two individual HMAAʼs in the 1000-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle races, as well as two team All-American honors in the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay. Rowland earned one All- American honor by placing fifth in the 400-yard individual medley and two Honorable Mention All- American awards in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly. Haney received two individual All-American awards with a third place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke and a sixth place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. She also earned a team All-American with a fifth place finish in the 400-yard medley relay.

Other swimmers who won an All-American or Honorable Mention All-American include Chris Salomone (two individual HMAA, one team AA), Jordy Troyan (one individual and one team AA, one individual and one team HMAA), Alec Best (two team AA), Rob Barnum (two team AA), Gabe Melo (three team AA, one team HMAA), Matt Weiser (one team AA), Tim Robinson (one team AA, one team HMAA), George Zimmerman (one individual and one team AA, one individual HMAA), Patrick Collins (one individual HMAA, one team AA), Jason Brennan (one individual HMAA), Cody Clauser (one individual HMAA), Kori Kilfeather (one individual AA, two team AA), Kate Jones (one team AA), Katie Kollar (two team AA, one individual HMAA), Melissa Young (one team AA, one individual AA, one individual HMAA), and Julie Keefer (one team AA, one individualHMAA)
