West Chester University is one of the hundreds of colleges across the United States that has Hillel on its campus. But what exactly is Hillel? Hillel is the Jewish Student Union for college students. If you participated in United Synagogue Youth, B’Nai Birth Organization or NFTY or any other Jewish youth group when you were younger, Hillel is the place to go to meet other Jews just like in high school. West Chester is a member of Hillel in Philadelphia where college students from across the Philadelphia area get together for numerous events at their respective campuses.Temple University, Penn State Abington, Drexel, West Chester, and many other schools in the Philadelphia area have small enough Hillels that when everybody gets together they can all enjoy themselves. You don’t have to be an observant Jew to have fun at a Hillel event. It’s a lot of socializing and getting to know other students here at school. What may be important for certain students is that they have a place where they can be comfortable being Jews with other members of their faith.

Hillel events may include dances, parties, or just get togethers with another campus. If you aren’t involved already, you can sign up for the Hillel in Philadelphia listserve to get e-mails about events throughout the Philadelphia area. Hillel provides many fun religious times with students here at West Chester University.

If you would like more information, please contact Edy Fink (TempleUniversity’s Hillel advisor) aboutgetting on the listserve. Her e-mailis edy@temple.edu.

  1. Do you have a Hillel or are there other Jewish organizations on the West Chester University campus in West Chester, PA?
