This spring and summer are coming up and it is now finally time to put away winter coats and Uggs and bring out our shorts, tank tops, and bathing suits. One popular item for spring is trenchcoats. Trenchcoats can make anyone look a little more sophisticated, and many designers displayed this coat on the runways this season, such as Tommy Hilfilger who even displayed trenches in silk and satin.
Cobalt blue was the color of Spring 2008, but hot pink is the new color of Spring 2009. Many designers displayed many pieces of their collections in hot pink, such as Matthew Williamson and Adam Lippes. The good news about hot pink: it flatters every skin tone, and can help one show off a tan.
Bold necklaces are making a big comeback. Extra long, chunky necklaces are perfect accessories to help one dress up a plain tank top. Vera Wang was a big fan of the necklaces in her collection this spring, and just one big chunky necklace can help make any of one’s outfits look more fashionable.
Oversized bags with a pattern were also a big hit on the runway this season. Many fashion experts are starting to ponder why anyone would carry an oversized plain bag when there are many fun and colorful prints available to carry around this season. Besides, it is spring, and soon it will be summer, so why not wear bright colors while one can?
Big bangles showed up various times in the collection of the legendary Marc Jacobs. He layered many bangles on each of his looks. That can prove to be very uncomfortable, so layer on one or three bangles. However, make sure to keep one’s bangles in odd numbers; bracelets look better when they’re in odd numbers.
Sequins are no longer just permitted for nightwear anymore: Diane von Furstenberg accented many of her day pieces such as cardigans and shorts with sequins. Although this might seem a bit much for a day look, it is beneficial because with the help of the sequins, people do not have to accessorize the outfit as much because it will make the outfit look overdone.
The cropped military jacket is a good look also for a chilly spring night and will help make one’s outfit look more professional and put together. The military jacket is a good replacement for the jean jacket or blazer.
For bottoms, the relaxed-fit pants are what are most popular for spring ’09. Similar to boyfriend jeans, these pants are cut loose and fit easily around the hips, and then taper above the ankle. These pants are so far one of the most comfortable trends of ’09, and a great pair of relaxed-fit pants in a linen or cotton will prove to keep you both comfortable and cool during spring and summer.
For bathing suits this summer, one shouldered pieces, whether bikinis or monokinis are flattering for everyone and can be found virtually at any bathing suit shop. Another trend found on the runway for summer was cut-out suits. These suits are cut away at random places, making the one-piece or monokini a bit more risqué. To accessorize one’s suit, wear sheer pieces over the suit or pair it up with an accenting chunky necklace.
