The Lady Rams (12-2) had to prove their worth against a very game Kutztown University squad looking to upset West Chester. Although they lost their second match, the Lady Rams came back and bump, set, and spiked their way to a 3-1 victory.The first two sets were split between the two teams with scores of 25-19 and 15-25. The third set, however, was the turning point of the game. The Golden Rams trailed 18-12 and then rallied late in the match. Late in the game, while Kutztown was leading 27-26, West Chester scored three consecutive points to win the game. After the comeback in the third game, West Chester beat the Golden Bears 25-13 in the fourth and final game to take the match. Top scorers for West Chester were Michelle Powers with 18 kills, Lisa Yeasted with 35 assists and 7 kills, and Kayla Beck and Lisa Campbell with 20 digs.
The next game proved to be just as easy for the Golden Rams. They easily defeated Goldey Beacom 3-0 in a non-league match on Thursday.
Besides the first match which West Chester won 25-20, Goldey Beacom never posed a threat to the Lady Rams. West Chester would easily win games two and three 25-6 and 25-17. Once again, Michelle Powers demonstrated her ability to dominate the scoring with 12 kills. Other top scorers were Megan Musselman with 11 kills, Jacqueline Vivano with 13 digs and Lisa Yeasted led the squad in assists with 33 all together.
West Chester finished the week defeating Holy Family 3-1 on Saturday. The Lady Rams would take the match winning the games 25-19, 25-15, 9-25 and 25-18. Powers and Musselman continued their strong play as they led the West Chester attack. Yeasted led West Chester with 25 assists even though she was injured during the third game.
The Lady Rams will host the undefeated Lock Haven University Lady Eagles on Tuesday to claim the top spot in the PSAC East. They will also host the Cheyney University Wolves on Thursday.
