With so many places to eat in West Chester, it’s hard to decide where to really impress someone to the point of full content. For special occasions that fall under any category a person can think of, Gilmore’s is absolutely amazing.”The restaurant is casual, yet intimate, with the feeling like you are at home,” Susan Gilmore, wife of owner Peter Gilmore, said.

With fresh flowers almost in every corner and candles on every table, the room feels quite romantic. Artist John Hannafin is featured throughout the dining room on the gorgeous salmon colored walls, giving the room a very peaceful setting. The general appearance heading into the dining room is Caribbean, which really makes a person feel like s/he is on vacation.

“The entrees and deserts are a must have when dining at Gilmore’s,” customer Keith Bernard stated.

The food offered is of French cuisine. Appetizers include crispy calamari and salmon parfait with caviar, among other tasty treats. The entrees include lobster and steak frey; both the dishes’ presentation, as well as the food itself, were absolutely amazing.

The dessert adds the perfect ending to the dining experience. The milk-chocolate mousse filled inside a sugar candy apple was breathtaking. The plate was so neatly crafted one almost did not want to eat it. It really is amazing how much work goes into the desserts at Gilmore’s. The wait staff is skilled at guiding one towards the right dishes for his/her appetite.

To dine at the restaurant, one is required to make a reservation. The seating space is very limited, which actually works in the general favor of the experience. The restaurant is a BYOB, so feel free to bring along wine or a choice of liquor. This is really a good place to enjoy a private setting.

The owner and executive chef Gilmore, who for 22 years worked at prestigious Le-Bec Fin of Philadelphia, will amaze you with his knowledge. Patrick, his wife Susan and the entire staff really seem to enjoy working together. As always, this makes the dining experience respectably better.

Specials run almost every night of the week. If you’re looking to eat on a budget, a $35 fixed course of three dishes bistro style is available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. For $60 the chef prepares a menu of five courses for the evening; and every second Sunday of each month, theme dinners are available.

The hours of operation are Tuesday to Saturday with a rotation of two seatings, 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

To inquire about reservations or any other questions about the restaurant, a Gilmore’s staff member may be reached at 610-431-2800. The address is 133 E. Gay Street West Chester, PA. Parking is free in town after 5:00 p.m., and a convenient lot is also available nearby. With smoke-free dining as well, what’s not to love at Gilmore’s?

From a romantic date to a graduation, to anniversaries or any other special occasion, this restaurant has every feature to entertain. One will not be able to get over the uniqueness of the upscale dining experience. So next time you’re looking to impress someone, make a reservation at Gilmore’s and get ready to be entertained.
