The 2005 Senior Class Gift Drive is asking seniors to give a little something back to the West Chester University community. The drive’s kick-off event was held Thursday, Sept. 16 in Sykes Student Union. Seniors were invited to hear information about the drive, as well as enjoy free snacks. The project, headed by Linda Chambers, assistant director of annual giving and phone-a-thon director, Melissa Cauler, director of annual giving and corporate relations and WCU class of 2005 student and committee chair, Karen Snyderman, is the first of its kind at WCU.The committee is combining the fundraising efforts of the classes of 1941 and 2005, as well as the residential Initiative Grant. The end result of the project will be a landscaped sitting area near the Old Main Hall archway. Once the project is complete, this area will become the main entrance to the academic quad from High Street. A plaque with both classes listed, as well as a brief history of Old Main Hall, will be displayed. Cauler explained that part of the goal of this project is to help students learn to be responsible adults.

The committee is asking that each senior donate 20 dollars and five cents (in recognition of the year) towards the project. Student Committee member Preshus Goshay said, “When I heard it was going to be landscaping around the archway from Old Main, I knew I definitely wanted to be a part of it.” The committee current consists of six students and is looking for more.
