On Thursday Dec. 4, the Presidential Search Committee made their top three recommendations to the West Chester University Council of Trustees for the future president of West Chester University.The top three candidates are Dr. Katherine (Kate) Conway-Turner, Dr. Mark B. Lapping, and Dr. Greg R. Weisenstein.

Conway-Turner is the Provost and VPAA at SUNY Geneseo. She holds a B.A. in microbiology, a M.A. /Ph.D. in Psychology all from the University of Kansas.

She completed two years of post-doctoral training at UCLA in psychiatric epidemiology before beginning her teaching career at Santa Clara University in the Department of Psychology in 1983. She is a strong advocate for technology on campus and women’s studies issues.

Lapping, a professor at the University of Southern Maine, was also the Interim Provost and Vice President. He was named “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” at both the University of Vermont and the University of Missouri. He earned his Ph.D. from Institute for the Liberal Arts at Emory University, a certificate in regional economics & public policy from MIT (1969), and Bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz (1967). Lapping has published a number of books on the subject of community planning and development.

Weisenstein currently serves as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of North Dakota. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Washington and his doctorate in education from the University of Kansas. He has four books and a number of articles on the topics of science and management. He has also served on committees for educational improvement.

The last day for interviews with the Chancellor and Board of Governors is Dec. 10, and it is expected that a decision will soon follow.
